The Sydney Sixers took advantage of a super over and the heroic contribution by their skipper Moises Henriques to make it into the Big Bash League final by beating the Brisbane Heat. They will play the Perth Scorchers to determine which team takes all the marbles.
The Perth side showed no mercy in sending the Melbourne Stars home for the season by seven wickets.
The Sixers – Heat meeting was a nail-biter of the most delectable variety. The 35,000-plus fans packed into the Gabba witnessed a sensational semifinal that was knotted on 167 runs after 40 overs.
Henriques proceeded to launch a couple of sixes and a boundary, which ultimately concluded with the Sixers posting 22 runs. It then fell on Sean Abbot, the leading wicket-taker in the BBL, to limit the Heat to 15 runs, securing the finals spot for the Sixers.
Henriques, in his previous at-bat, put up 64 runs off 34 balls, so if the Sixers had failed to win, it would have been a major disgrace. When the match was on the line, however, he rose to the fore as is befitting of true championship contenders, setting up a weekend meeting with the Heat that will be played at the WACA Ground.
