Four wins in a row generates plenty of enthusiasm and often results in those teams getting too far down the road ahead of themselves in terms of post-season anticipation, but the Cronulla Sharks might be entitled to some positive energy after belting the Canberra Raiders 40 – 16 recently.
Keen observers, some who might even be generously considered knowledgeable, rank the Sharks just behind the Broncos and the Cowboys, so apparently the experts are seeing much to their liking at this early stage.
The scoring explosion demonstrated in the seven-try outburst against the Raiders is a welcome addition for a team that has generally relied on scrappy play to win close games.
Ben Barra was a major contributor with two tries and he gives every indication of getting better every week. He has crossed in his last four games, something that he had not managed since his Dally M Medal winning year of 2012.
Going into the season, there was some concern over how Coach Shane Flanagan intended to manage the workload of three fullbacks, but if Sunday’s game is any indication, there should be enough scoring to keep all three busy and satisfied.
