December Sports And Racing For Year 2015

December 2015 is now upon us. Punters have plenty of markets for the month, some of them shaping up to be pretty interesting.

The World Surf League is holding the Billabong Pipe Master on 8 December, in Oahu, of all places, where billabongs are few and far between.

The World Champion will be crowned, with the contest basically resembling Australia versus Brazil. The top three include Mick Fanning as the favourite with Felipe Toledo and Adriano De Souza in hot pursuit. Sportsbet has Fanning at $2.50, Toledo at $3.50 and De Sousa at $4.00. Only a few points separate the men. Intriguingly, none of the three men is favoured to win the event. Fanning is at $9.00, Toledo is at $23 and De Souza is at $21.00.

There are no markets for who will punch the most sharks. The thoroughbreds have a slow month, on the Group level at any rate. They deserve a rest after the spring carnival. The Kingston Town Classic on 4 December is the only Group 1 event. Delicacy and Magic Artist are currently co-favourites at $4.60 according to Sportsbet, but at this point, it remains to be seen what the final odds will be once the final field is set.

The Villiers Stakes and later in the month, the CB Cox Stakes, represent all of the Group 2 action. Four Group 3 races at Ascot, Doomben and Randwick wind things up for the month as the top runners settle in for a spell.

Of course, there is soccer and rugby being played somewhere, even after the main events have been decided. Consult your favourite bookmaker’s website to see what, if anything, looks worth a punt.

The English Premier League is the place to look for some quality Football, with thousands of market and the A-League offers similar opportunities. For those who like the American markets, the NCAA is just about finished with its regular season, but the post-season bowls that have been expanded to the extent that almost any team that has won five games or more will be invited to play somewhere.

The Denver Broncos look like a safe punt to win and cover, now that it seems they have discarded their aging and ineffective liability of a quarterback. There are also National Hockey League and National Basketball Association games almost every day of the week from now until about the end of June. The Golden State Warriors, last year’s NBA Champions, are as of this moment late in November off to a perfect start, having won their first 15 games and going for a record breaking 16th win, so if that team and all-world guard Stephon Curry can repeat as champs could be another interesting market.

Sportsbet has them at $3.20, followed by the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lebron “Don’t Anybody Other Than Me Even Think About Touching The Ball” James. The standings in the NHL are a bit tighter; with the division leading teams all off to good starts. The Montreal Canadiens are the current Sportsbet favourite to win the Stanley Cup at $9.00. Golfing punters will find four compelling events in December, beginning with the Hero World Challenge in Bahrain, where young Jordan Spieth will defend his title from 2014, schedule permitting. Hometown boy Jason Day won last year’s Franklin Templeton Shootout.

NASCAR has just concluded its season, but it is never hard to find a wager based on internal combustion engines. The last Formula 1 race takes place on 29 November. The V8 Supercars Championship happens early in December, where it would seem that Mark Winterbottom has the upper hand by a considerable margin. We would not want the cricket crowd to feel slighted, so for one thing, there is the Australia versus West Indies Test Series, where it would seem as though Australia is highly favoured.

The Australian cross-country team might offer a market or two and this 2015 season is a good opportunity to see any up-and-comers wanting to establish themselves for the 2015 World Alpine Championships later in February. Australian skiers will dominate, as they always do…what’s that? Excuse us, we got Australia and Austria confused…

There are thousands of other wagering markets to be found by anyone who makes the minimum effort required to find good punts. As always, we hope to see you finish the month with far more funds than you had at the start of the month.
