Fantasy footballers who picked the Fremantle Dockers based on last year’s results no doubt feel as though they are not participating in anything even closely resembling a fantasy, but are clearly trapped in a 0 – 6 nightmare from which waking up is impossible.
The most recent rude awakening for the Dockers came courtesy of the Adelaide Crows at Adelaide Oval on Saturday as they saw the Crows winning by 33 points to earn them the dubious distinction of being football’s greatest slider, taking over from the Richmond Tigers’ five-game streak at the start of the 1983 season.
The Dockers were unable to convert an early six marks taken inside 50 to none for the Crows. They kicked only one goal, despite the big advantage.
Abysmal kicking from point-blank range prevented the Dockers from making a dent in the 12-point lead the Crows took into half-time.
The Crows, on the other hand, made the most of their chances, including goals by Jarryd Lyons, Eddie Betts (four goals on the day) and Brodie Smith.
There is no Round 7 relief in sight for Freo, as they face number five GWS Giants on 7 May, other than they get to play on their home ground once again.
