Just going to outright say it – William Pike has made the wrong decision in getting off Delicacy for Neverland in the Perth Cup.

Completely see the theory behind his well documented reasoning i.e the weight difference etc, but Delicacy is a special mare – her record over 1800m+ is 8 wins from 9 starts, her only loss coming two starts ago when she gave 6.5kgs to unbeaten filly and stablemate Perfect Reflection in the Kingston Town Stakes (Neverland 5 lengths away) going down narrowly on a less than suitable heavy track where the 3yo got all the favours and she got very few.

In this she’s going to get the perfect run in transit from the inside gate, so she won’t have to spend a penny finding a position, which is extremely important for any horse carrying a big weight and it’s not like she loses anything with Peter Hall aboard who has ridden her several times to victory. Can’t wait to see her take on the East Coast next prep – by then hopefully she’s added another big race success by taking out her home town feature. Read More…
