With the nation set to scorch this week, the majority of sportsbet.com.au punters are predicting 2015/16 will be Australia’s hottest summer on record.
The online bookie has priced 2015/16 being our hottest ever summer as a $4.20 chance, with punters keen to jump on board at that price.
In the capital city temperature markets, Sportsbet is taking more than 20 bets on Adelaide to have more than 15.5 days over 35 degrees ($1.70) this summer for every one bet on under 15.5 days ($2.05).
Adelaide remains the favourite to record Australia’s hottest capital city temperature this summer, priced at $2.50, with Perth next in line at $3.00. Punters are struggling to split the cities, with slightly more money on Perth to top the thermometer.
Sydney is a $6.00 chance to be our hottest capital city, followed by Melbourne at $7.50, but Sportsbet has taken four times as many bets on the southern capital to take the gong compared to Sydney – and we are not surprised.
“Australian’s love betting on the weather as much as they love talking about it and what they are saying is records are set to tumble this summer,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Bulmer.
