The drama is in more than adequate supply as the quest of F1 Team Mercedes to find an adequate replacement following the shock retirement of Nico Rosberg shifts gears and moves outside the strict confines of the Mercedes stable.
Former Red Bull Junior Team member Brendon Hartley, a Kiwi driver now employed as a driver for Porche’s LMP1 squad would get the nod from us, as his uncanny resemblance to Justin Bieber would obviously supply F1 with marquee value. He has experience to go along with the looks, having been a test driver for Mercedes’ F1 division back in 2012 and 2013.
At the moment, the upper hand to take the wheel of Rosberg’s car belongs to Felipe Massa, provided the Brazilian driver can be coaxed out of retirement that only recently began.
Mercedes team Chief Toto Wolff says he has be inundated with drivers’ resumes seeking the plum assignment. It would be thought that Mercedes might seek a recommendation from Lewis Hamilton, but it increasingly appears as though they are devising an exit strategy that involves constructing a door for Hamilton to be shown combined with the advice to not let that door hit him in the buttocks on his way out.
