The Richmond Tigers have lost defender Bachar Houli to a wrist injury that is expected to keep him out of action for as long as three months, meaning that he could be out until around Round 20. Houli suffered the injury during training last week and was a late scratch for last week’s game with Sydney. Surgery was performed Monday.
The Tigers also lost Daniel Rioli and Chris Yarran to personal issues. Both will miss some training time, but Rioli is anticipating being available when the Tigers play the Dockers in Perth on Saturday night.
The bad news of more missed time for key players comes hard on the heels of forward Jarryd Roughead’s bout with a case of recurring skin cancer.
No team is immune from the injury issue, but Richmond seems to have experienced a more than fair share in a short span.
The Carlton Blues are another team that will lose a key player when they do without the services of ruckman Matthew Kreuzer due to a knee injury that could cause him as many as four rounds. His knee will require surgery and could have been made more complicated when he hurt the knee, yet refused to come off in the Blues’ win over Port.
