Hugh Bowman Jockey Of The Month May 2016
Jockey Of The Month - Hugh Bowman
One would have to say it has all been a horrible oversight and that we here at BetsFree say, "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa" to Hugh Bowman. How could anyone else, who dons the silks, goggles and helmet, be considered Jockey of the Month, this month or any other month in 2016?
Hugh Bowman has been quite outstanding. On Winx of course, and, perhaps, we were all so cock-a-hoop over the mighty mare that we forgot the maestro in the saddle directing affairs. Hugh Bowman has been sublime. He has found the inside lane when he has had to, on numerous occasions. He has piloted nags and champions to great victories in Australia and overseas.
In Hong Kong, the little master partners Werther to his second Group 1 victory in the QEII Cup; and now they are aiming this horse at the 2016 Cox Plate. Bowman with Winx and Waller wins the Doncaster Mile in a supremely gutsy effort by horse and rider; coming from nowhere in boggy ground to accelerate away with the prize. Hugh Bowman wins The BMW on Preferment this year as well. He won last year’s Cox Plate on Winx to boot.
At age 35, this supremely gifted horseman has amassed prize money for his horses of $119, 147, 636 since 2000. He has ridden 53 Group 1 winners from 417 starts; 68 group 2 winners from 438 starts, 61 Group 3 winners from 432 starts, 74 Listed winners from 652 starts and another 1493 winners from 8897 starts. That is a lot of winning rides, both generally, and at the top level of his profession. He has ridden more winners for Chris Waller trained horses, followed by Guy Walters, Kris Lees, John O’Shea, the late Bart Cummings and Ron Quinton.
Hugh Bowman currently sits second on the 2016 Sydney jockey’s premiership with 56 winners. James McDonald leads with 80, but he has started in 73 more races. Hugh is too busy taking the best rides on the best horse, not only all over this country, but all over the world when required. BetsFree salutes the outstanding talents of the best jockey in the nation, Hugh Bowman; he is our Jockey of the Month. If I owned a horse with some talent I would want Hugh Bowman in the saddle when it really counted and the big bucks were on the line.
Hugh Bowman rides Fame Game in Japan next week.
